Essay upon the union. Shewing, that the subjects of both nations have been, by the union of the two crowns, justly intitled to all manner of privileges, which the insuing treaty can give them. Therefore the Work of the Ensuing Treaty is not so much to Treat of New Privileges, as to provide for the Security of the Old ones. And the best Security against Incroachments on both sides, is, to have separate Parliaments, with an express Proviso, That no Laws about Trade, or the other common Concerns of the United Nations, shall be of Force, unless agreed to by both Parliaments.
