About this work
Description
Collection of medical receipts and remedies in German, including a herbal. Ornamental initial in red and yellow on first leaf, other capitals, headings, foliation and paragraph marks in red.
.ff. 1r-11r: 'Von dem gebranten weyne', and other receipts. Ff. 11r-60r: 'Nota circa herbarium: item von der frawenseuche'. ff. 60r-63r: 'Dy varbe dy de hörn hot' [Colours of urines, etc.]. Ff. 63r-72v: Miscellaneous receipts and remedies. The section from f. 60-end seems to be based on Ortolff von Bayerland's 'Arzneibuch'-first printed at Nuremberg in 1477. He is named on f. 64r. The first 11 of the 12 un-foliated leaves (up to the recto of the 11th leaf) at the end contain a Register of the manuscript's contents, which refers to the foliated leaves up to f. 40. On the verso of the 11th leaf is a Latin prayer by another hand. On the verso of the last leaf 'Joannes spangl nech Gemnoch [?].' This place-name may probably be a 15th century spelling of Gemmenach in Belgium near Aachen.
