About this work

Description

These are recordings of the tarantella, a musical therapy for people bitten by the tarantula. They were produced by Diego Carpitella and Alan Lomax while researching the condition in Apulia, Italy, as part of Ernesto de Martino's wider ethnographic study of the same name. The tape contains a brief narrative (in Italian), which adds context to the recordings, explains how the tarantella would have sounded in the 17th century and why it has changed over time. 1 segment
