Description
Full colour advertising card that could either be hung up or placed free-standing with a display of boxes of Bile Beans. It has a hinged support on the back. The card shows a young blond woman standing on a set of pale blue bathroom scales against a black background, looking pleased with what they tell her. She is wearing an acid green petticoat, stockings and green high heeled shoes. The Beans were a popular product, manufactured and advertised extensively by C.E. Fulford & Co. of Leeds. They were suposed to cure constipation, indigestion, liver trouble, piles, biliousness, anaemia, sleeplessness, flatulence, heartburn, bad breath, dyspepsia, female ailments (menstrual problems), nervous debility, depression, pimples, impure blood, rheumatism, backache and kidney trouble.
