1853 volume includes Scotland and Ireland. C.J. Harris states in the preface that the intention had been to amalgamate the directories for London, the provinces, Scotland, and Ireland under the title of "British and colonial medical directory", but that the publication of a rival directory entitled "British medical directory" had caused a change of mind.
